Christmas 2026 replaces the earlier 2027 plan

Confirmed on 25 March 2026

HBO says the eight-episode first season is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and will debut at Christmas 2026. The same announcement says it will stream exclusively on HBO Max where the service is available, explicitly including the UK and Ireland.

Source: Warner Bros. Discovery Pressroom · checked 2 Oct 2026

You may still see 2027 in older articles. That date was accurate when production began: Warner Bros. Discovery’s 14 July 2025 announcement said the series was due in 2027. The March 2026 release announcement is newer and more specific, so this guide uses Christmas 2026. Variety reported on 12 August 2026 that the premiere is set for 25 December 2026 (Christmas Day) on HBO and HBO Max. The official announcement itself still states “Christmas 2026”, so the exact day is attributed to trade reporting.

Source: Warner Bros. Discovery Pressroom · checked 2 Oct 2026

For UK viewers, the current official answer is HBO Max. That is not an inference from US availability: the launch announcement names the UK and Ireland. Availability, subscription tiers and compatible devices can still change, so check HBO Max itself nearer transmission rather than buying a long subscription around an assumed weekly schedule.

Reported premiere: 25 December 2026 (Christmas Day). Source: Variety · checked 2 Oct 2026 HBO’s official announcement confirms Christmas 2026 and UK HBO Max availability; Variety names the exact date. For a festive trip, read our Harry Potter London at Christmas guide.

The series is a new screen adaptation rather than a continuation of the eight feature films. That distinction matters when you plan a trip. A street associated with the television production is not automatically a location from the films, and a familiar film attraction does not automatically contain television-series sets or costumes.

What is official

A Leavesden production with location work beyond the studio

HBO officially announced the start of production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in July 2025. The production base is a working film-and-television studio complex in Hertfordshire, outside central London. It is not the same thing as the adjacent Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, which is a separately ticketed visitor attraction centred on the making of the original Harry Potter films.

Official production information gives the reliable spine of this page: the company, production base and release plan. Public-location details are different. HBO has not published a complete visitor map of television filming sites. The five places below come from dated reporting and are labelled accordingly. A report can establish that production activity was seen at a place without proving the exact scene, final edit or fictional identity of that location.

Variety reported on 3 September 2026 that a second official trailer had been released. Variety had reported on 7 May 2026 that HBO gave an early Season 2 renewal, with the next adaptation based on Chamber of Secrets. These are dated trade reports, not a claim that HBO has released the full episode slate or a second-season premiere date.

Officially confirmed

First-season title, eight episodes, Christmas 2026 debut, HBO Max UK and Ireland availability, and the Leavesden production base.

Reported on location

Observed or reported production work at public places. These entries remain attributed until HBO or Warner Bros. confirms the screen relationship.

Reported London and nearby filming locations

Five reports, each with a different kind of visit

Go because the place is worthwhile or already fits the day—not to obstruct a station, business, zoo or neighbourhood while searching for a production that has moved on.

Reported by The Morning Advertiser, 19 August 2025

Borough High Street

Central London

The trade publication reported filming on Borough High Street and coverage around The Blue Maid. It also described a possible Leaky Cauldron role, but that proposed fictional identity is the publication’s interpretation rather than an HBO confirmation. The secure claim is that production activity was reported on the street.

How to visit. Use London Bridge station and treat this as part of a broader Southwark walk. Borough High Street is a busy traffic and business corridor, not a preserved set. Nothing guarantees that façades, dressing or sightlines will match the finished episode. Do not enter a pub or shop merely to recreate an unconfirmed shot; patronise a business normally if you choose to go inside.

What to pair it with. Borough Market and Stoney Street have a separate, established relationship to Prisoner of Azkaban. Millennium Bridge and the Thames path continue the original-film route. This is the easiest reported television location to add without distorting a central London day.

London Zoo

Ticketed attraction

A specialist production report placed activity at London Zoo during the first weeks of filming. HBO has not published a scene description in the sources used here. The zoo is already familiar to film fans because its reptile-house area is associated with the original screen story, but that earlier connection should not be used to guess what the television production filmed.

How to visit. London Zoo is a paid conservation attraction in Regent’s Park. Check the zoo’s official admission, opening and access information before travelling; do not assume a particular enclosure is open or unchanged. Allow several hours if animals and conservation work interest you. Buying admission only for a few seconds of future screen recognition is poor value.

What to pair it with. Regent’s Park, Camden and the Euston–King’s Cross area can form a north-London day. The zoo does not sit naturally on the east-to-west central filming walk, so forcing it into that route adds travel and a substantial ticket cost.

Embankment Underground station

Working transport

The same production recap reported filming involving performers at Embankment station on 21 July 2025. This is a report of work at the station, not official confirmation of the final scene. Television editing can combine entrances, platforms and nearby streets, and footage can be removed before release.

How to visit. Embankment is a functioning Underground station. Use it when it serves your actual journey; do not stop at gates, stairs or platform edges for photographs. Outside, the Thames, Victoria Embankment Gardens and a short walk toward Charing Cross provide a reason to pause safely. Check live TfL information for closures and step-free requirements.

What to pair it with. It sits between the Westminster cluster and the West End. The self-guided filming route already explains how to avoid backtracking through this part of London. Treat the station as a connective point rather than a destination.

Reported by BBC News, 25 September 2025

Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire

Outside London

BBC News reported a scene being filmed in Hoddesdon involving a performer cast as Vernon Dursley and a figure in a purple cloak. That reporting gives more scene context than a distant set photograph, but HBO has not issued a visitor-facing location confirmation.

How to visit. Hoddesdon is a Hertfordshire town north of London, not a central-London neighbourhood. Use National Rail’s live journey planner for the date, then check the local connection from the chosen station. The production dressing and road controls were temporary. Visit only if the town already interests you or you are building a wider Hertfordshire day; a special trip in search of a removed set is unlikely to reward a first-time London visitor.

What to pair it with. It does not combine efficiently with the Studio Tour merely because both places are in Hertfordshire. Leavesden lies west of London while Hoddesdon lies to the north-east. A map makes the same-county label look simpler than the public-transport journey really is.

Reported by Vanity Fair, 30 September 2025

Windsor Great Park

Park, not a set visit

Vanity Fair reported a temporary production set in Windsor Great Park in September 2025. VisitBritain has since included the reported set in its television-series location summary. Neither source turns the production area into a public attraction, and the reported structure should not be assumed to remain in place.

How to visit. Windsor Great Park is a huge landscape with public areas, changing opening information, paid parking and some separately ticketed facilities. Plan around an official public entrance and an attraction such as Virginia Water or the Long Walk. Do not seek Forest Lodge, cross barriers or follow production traffic. Private and operational parts of the estate remain private even when a news report names the wider park.

What to pair it with. Windsor works as a conventional day out from London, but the park and Windsor Castle require more time than a quick location pin suggests. If the television report is your only interest, wait until an episode airs and HBO confirms what the landscape represents before committing a day.

Leavesden without the confusion

How the Studio Tour relates to the television series

Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden is the production complex named in HBO’s announcement. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is the adjacent public attraction. Sharing a place name does not give visitors access to active sound stages, television sets or production teams. Your Tour ticket admits you to the visitor attraction described on the official ticket, not to the working studio.

The Studio Tour’s current public pages, checked on 2 October 2026, describe original Harry Potter film sets, props, costumes and production craft. The seasonal feature and the new guide to Harry Potter London at Christmas can help with a festive trip. We found no official announcement on those pages of a television-series exhibit. That sentence is a dated review of the public offer, not a claim that future additions are impossible. If Warner Bros. announces series material later, this page and its RSS record can be updated.

Source: Warner Bros. Studio Tour London · checked 13 Sept 2026Source: Warner Bros. Studio Tour London · checked 15 Sept 2026

For a first trip, the Tour remains valuable because it explains screen craft at a depth that a public street cannot: scenery, creatures, props, graphic design and practical effects. Visit it for the attraction sold today, not for the possibility of seeing an active television production. The complete Studio Tour guide covers tickets, Euston, Watford Junction, the shuttle, timing and facilities. If official admission is unavailable, use the sold-out options guide rather than buying an unverified resale ticket.

Build a sensible fan day

Choose confirmed value over set-chasing

For a first London visit: keep Borough High Street as a small addition to Borough Market, and pass through Embankment only if the route already uses it. Give London Zoo its own half day or more. Leave Hoddesdon and Windsor for repeat visits or broader regional plans.

After the premiere: compare the transmitted scene with the source report before adding a marker to your itinerary. A filming report proves production activity, not necessarily a recognisable final shot. The most useful future update will be a source-backed scene/location match, not a longer list of rumours.

During active production: never chase unit signs, vehicles or crew. Do not share private addresses, cross closures or treat residents and workers as part of an attraction. A respectful fan leaves the street operating normally and uses only public visitor information.
